- What is Sociology?
- Sociology is housed in the Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice, Law and Society Department. The department offers the following majors and minors:
- Major and minor in Sociology
- Major and minor in Anthropology*
- Major and minor in Criminal Justice, Law and Society
- Minor in Comparative Religion
- Minor in Social Equity and Social Change
- Minor in Gender & Sexuality Studies
*Students who major in Sociology cannot double-major in Cultural Anthropology

Declaring a major or minor in Sociology
- ɳ University students declare majors by the end of sophomore year or at 45 earned credits
- Current students interested in the Sociology major or minor should connect with a Sociology advisor as soon as possible.
Sociology Requirements
Course Planning for Major
- (includes two and four-year course planning)
- Courses to complete in the first two years to finish a Sociology major in four years:
- One Introductory Sociology course - SOC 110, SOC 101, or SOC 150 (fall or spring)
- Recommended to take only one Introductory course, as there is overlap in core content between the courses
- If Math Level I:
- MATH 122 College Algebra (prerequisite for Statistics) (fall or spring)
- SOC 200 Introduction to Sociological Thought (offered intermittently)
- One (or more) SOC elective
- One Introductory Sociology course - SOC 110, SOC 101, or SOC 150 (fall or spring)
Note: Some Anthropology courses can satisfy Sociology major or minor requirements, by approval. Students should speak with their advisor or the department chair ahead of time.
