MS in Speech-Language Pathology Scholarships and Assistantships

Through the generosity of donors and funding through the School of CSD, scholarships are awarded to incoming students each fall. All scholarships awarded by ��ɳ�� University are awarded through the Office of Financial Aid.

Aurora Peters Speech Pathology Endowed Scholarship Fund

Aurora (“Rae”) Peters (’65) and Clark Peters (’65) established this scholarship to honor Rae’s service as a speech-language pathologist in the Lynch School District. Rae was encouraged by ��ɳ�� University Professor A.C. (“Hap”) Hingston to pursue the Speech Therapy program as an undergraduate student. The School of CSD is grateful for their enduring gift to support students in the MS SLP program. This scholarship awarded to an incoming student with priority given to students who graduate from ��ɳ�� University.

Marilyn Makii Morikawa (’70) & Karen Scheller Johnson (’70) Endowed Scholarship Fund

Marilyn Makii Morikawa endowed this scholarship in honor of her dear friend Karen Scheller Johnson. The School of CSD is grateful for their enduring gift to support students in the MS SLP program.

Two scholarships are awarded to incoming students with priority given to one student who is from Hawai’i and one student who is from Oregon.

The School of CSD awards 2 scholarships to MS SLP students in the 1st year of the program.

Other Scholarships Open for Individual Student Application

Students are encouraged to apply for scholarship funding. The School of CSD is happy to provide admitted and current students with letters of verification of student status to support scholarship applications.

Student Travel & Registration Fees Grant Support

All enrolled students are eligible and encouraged to apply for travel funds to support attendance at professional conferences and workshops. Priority is given to students who will present their work at conferences with a maximum award of $600 annually. Students who attend conferences or other professional development experiences are eligible for up to $300 in support annually. The School distributes available funds to maximize student participation.

Assistantships

Eight to nine graduate assistantship (GA) positions are offered to outstanding applicants each year at the time of formal notification of admission. Students receiving a GA awarded a $3,000 tuition waiver in year one (as part of the Financial Aid package) and $5,000 through payroll in monthly stipends during the first year (September-June).Those who accept a GA position are assigned to one of our full-time CSD faculty or staff for approximately ten hours per week on a variety of projects.

Financial Aid

To apply for financial aid, complete the (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available annually beginning October 1. To explore and understand available financing options, we recommend that you file the FAFSA no later than February 15, prior to the start of the academic year. It is not necessary to be accepted for admission prior to submitting a FAFSA.

Federal Student Loan Programs

Federal student loan programs offer:

Fixed interest rates, set annually by the federal government
Income-driven repayment plans
Loan forgiveness plans

Private Loans

Alternative loans are available through private lenders. Eligibility is generally based on a borrower’s employment history, credit score, debt-to-income ratio, and enrollment status. Students are encouraged to explore federal student loan options before applying for alternative student loans.

Federal Work Study

Federal work study funds part-time jobs for students with financial need, as determined by the FAFSA. Earnings are paid directly to the student for hours worked. To qualify, students must submit the FAFSA by March 1 (prior to the start of the academic year) and indicate on the FAFSA that they want to be considered for federal work study.
