Cameron Broome MAT '20 had a calling to be a teacher; to help, educate, support and encourage others as he had done throughout his whole life.聽

Samantha Trulock 鈥�14, known professionally as Sam Tru, has attracted attention for Cycle, her 2020 debut.聽The album made it to the second round of selection for the 2020 Grammys in the categories for Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Pop Solo Performance and Song of the Year, for 鈥淟et Me Down Easy.鈥�

When he attended 金沙娱乐, Jeremie Murfin didn鈥檛 necessarily see himself as an entrepreneur. First he was a teacher, but as opportunities emerged, he seized them, and then persevered through various business challenges and setbacks. He now finds himself as part owner of a Hillsboro, Ore.,-based music business that has thrived even during a pandemic.

Joshua Pearl' 19 learned about the therapeutics of music in the hardest possible way: He was afflicted with an autoimmune disease that caused him severe pain. He turned to the piano as a form of treatment, and it helped lessen the need for painkillers he had been prescribed. Recognizing that music could do for others what it did for him, Pearl聽became a music therapist.

Chika Matsumoto 鈥�21 first started dancing because it鈥檚 what her friends were doing. But she never stopped. 鈥淚t turned out to be a lifelong passion and hobby with me,鈥� she said. 鈥淒ance has just been that one thing that stuck with me my entire life.鈥�

Lianda Lonergan '21 is a member of the 金沙娱乐 Dance Ensemble stying dance, exercise science and more, as she plans a career in physical therapy and preventative medicine for dancers.

鈥淚 wanted to be competitive in the market and earn that edge that others might not want to pursue,鈥� said Zade Al-Khatatbeh MBA '18. He saw earning an MBA as a way to help develop the skills needed to advance a career goal of finance or consulting management.

From playing in Sarajevo as bombs fell to conducting in Forest Grove, Dijana Ihas's journey as a musician has been remarkable.

Andy Haugen 鈥�11, MAT 鈥�13 loves seeing his students鈥� 鈥渁h-ha鈥� moments. 鈥淵ou always get a different group of students every year, and you never know what their background or thought processes are,鈥� he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 always fresh, it鈥檚 always unique.鈥� Haugen is a history teacher at Valley Catholic High School, a private school in Beaverton, Ore., where he also is the school librarian.

A first-generation college student, Garcia Angeles started his life in a farming community in Mexico. At 金沙娱乐, he became a teacher who would support other English language learners like him.
