��ɳ���� University alumnus Dr. Shinji Seki OD ’79 will receive the eighth annual Kamelia Massih Prize for a Distinguished Optometrist on May 19 at the university’s graduate and professional Commencement ceremony.

At ��ɳ����, caring for student-athletes is a community affair. Before any football players stepped onto Ledbetter Field for practices, they received care from dental hygiene and optometry students. 

The successful practitioner in the Seattle area has built a thriving optical and hearing center, and served his local community and optometric profession with distinction for more than 30 years.

Dr. Weberling received the honor at ��ɳ����'s spring commencement on May 21, 2016.

At their 30th class reunion in 2003, his classmates honored his efforts by unveiling the Mad Dog Scholarship Fund. The fund reached the endowment level in 2009 and offered its first scholarship to an optometry student in 2010.

A passion for ��ɳ���� earns four new members a place in the President's Circle, honoring the university's $100,000 lifetime donors.

The ��ɳ���� difference spans generations. Kres Pedersen '79, OD '82 and his daughter Amy (Pedersen) Park '08, OD '11 both found personal connections and meaningful careers through ��ɳ����'s undergraduate and graduate programs.

The Humphreys put the ‘family’ in Family Eye Care

Dr. Bleything is a former College of Optometry dean and professor and also served as the university provost.

A 29-year career culminating in the Office of the Surgeon General started with optometry school at ��ɳ����. “��ɳ���� was, and still is, a small school where, instead of being a number, you can become an individual," said Col. John Pyle OD '64. "I had a really good time there.”

Alumni Jim and Mary Fair Berglund are among ��ɳ����’s most generous supporters, and daughter Julie Berglund Baker is following their lead.
