DeAnn Fitzgerald ’81, OD ’84 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has become well known for her focus on using optometry as a way to manage athletes’ concussions. She has developed protocols for young athletes who suffer head injuries, and her work has been widely shared and emulated around the country.

Even if she had done nothing else at ½ðɳÓéÀÖ, Varina French ’56, MS ’65 would have been remembered for her 17 years spent coaching women’s volleyball, softball, track and field and gymnastics, and for becoming the first female physical education department chair in the West.
Lopes is an undergraduate psychology major and varsity soccer player at ½ðɳÓéÀÖ University. In November, he successfully passed the U.S. Citizenship test after several years of uncertain legal status prior to becoming a legal permanent resident.
